Design Services
It's 2026, this is a one-page Buildtiful guide on how we contribute to Australian residential homes design.
Built with you in mind
We are modern humans, let's make things comfortable for someone that's 1.9m tall (6'ft 2"in).

Let's start with ceiling height
Our aim for internal ceiling height is 3 metres from floor finish height to the ceiling. Common "upgrades" are to 2.7m but the idea behind a higher ceiling is so that people standing and stretching or changing a t-shirt won't have to fear about hitting the ceiling fan. Oh did we mention that taller ceilings can also cater to more natural light?
Wider doors:
Front entry doors should be at least 1.2m wide where possible. Many single door entry points are designed with 870mm wide front doors, which is slightly not wide enough for our liking if you imagine yourself carrying two large grocery bags trying to fit through the front door.
In the 90's double doors are also common to create wide entry openings but most of the time people only opens one door for access so in Buildtiful's standard we always aim to make the front door as wide as possible above the standard 870mm width.
This goes for internal doors too, if a door can be made wider, we will always try put a wider door in.

No "Pizza Slice" Stairs
For safety. Period.
Dome basin waste
Don't wake the whole crew up at night, wash with a basin that has dome style waste plug.

Undermount sinks
Try to have undermount kitchen sinks and vanity basins. Your cleaner will thank you.

More eaves
.Less chance of needing to close your window when it rains. wider eaves where possible can help keep the windows open when during wet weather.
Less floor noise
A squeaky upper floor are signs that it didn't follow through with the Buildtiful guideline.

Block out curtains
Forget vertical blinds, they are terrible when it comes to blocking out light. Roller blinds aren't much better, they both make a lot of noise when the wind blows and the blinds bang around like a in a rave party. Eyelet style block out curtains can give much better sleeping quality in a pitch dark, cooler room.

Tapwares and cabinet hardware colour
Brushed metal finishing tapwares and cabinet hardwares are our go-to choice if available. Chrome is classic but water stains are more visible. Black colour taps becomes worn out pretty quick and ages quite fast.
Spacious bedrooms
Some say that humans typically sleep 8 hours a day. The bedroom thus is where we spent a third of our lives. When it comes to the bedroom, it's not always bigger the better, but there are standards.
A 3m by 3m bedroom is simply not good enough by our Buildtiful standards. It's just a kids room you say, but we always will try to aim for a 4m by 4m bedroom regardless of who is using it.
Why? It comes to the ability of placing a queen sized bed and be able to hop off the bed on all sides, whilst still having room to put a reading desk and chair.
It's not rocket science, but it is harder and harder to find bigger bedrooms these days.

Rain starts, life stops
You should still be able to do almost everything you would normally do when it's not raining. We all know that of course a little bit of rain doesn't hurt but the ability to keep everything dry is priceless in design.
